Deposit & payment

A 50% deposit is required at time of ordering. Dates will not be held without payment of deposit. All deposits are non-refundable. For celebration cakes final payment will be due 5 days before the delivery / collection date, unless otherwise agreed.

Wedding cake deposits:

A 50% deposit is required at time of booking, dates will not be held without payment of deposit. This is a non-refundable and non-transferable fee to secure the date you require. Final payment for wedding cakes is due no later than 10 days before the wedding date. If the final payment is not received a reminder may be sent, if no further payment is made we will consider the order cancelled and the deposit lost.

Deposit and balance payment can be made via bank transfer or cash.

Delivery

Delivery will be free of charge if within 5 miles of my bakery (Willingdon, East Sussex). £2 will be charged for every 1 mile after that.

Collection

Sugar Smash Bakery cannot take any responsibility for damage made to cakes when collected and transported by the customer.

The cake should be transported on a flat surface – either in the boot or the foot well of the car. Extra care should be taken when driving as some elements may be delicate. Also, please be aware of the internal temperature of your car, particularly on hot days – use air conditioning if available and do not leave the cake in your car for any period of time. Never transport the cake on someone’s lap or on the car seat itself.

Storing your cake once home

All cakes should be stored on a flat surface at room temperature away from windows/direct sunlight, in the box provided. Do not refrigerate unless advised to do so by ourselves.

Sponge cakes are best consumed within 48 hours of collection/delivery. Fruit Cakes will last much longer.

Changes to the design

Minor changes only, can be made to all orders up to 14 days before delivery/collection. No changes to the main design allowed as ingredients and materials will have already been purchased and in some cases modelling may have begun.

Allergy information

We CANNOT guarantee that any of our products are completely free from ingredients that may affect those with severe food allergies. We reserve the right to decline any orders for clients with serious food allergies such as peanuts and will not assume any liability for adverse reactions to our products.

We can however safely offer Dairy Free or Vegan cakes.

Please note: most novelty and wedding cakes contain small proportions of inedible items e.g. Support dowels in tiered cakes, ribbon, supports in models, wires in sugar flowers, flower tape and sometimes dried or fresh flowers.

You will be informed of any non-edible elements in your cake, and it is your responsibility to ensure these are removed before serving.

Cancellation

Cancellation by the customer

If you cancel your order, your deposit is non-refundable, payment is required for any and all expenses already incurred on behalf of the finished product.

For wedding cakes if you cancel within 3 months of your wedding date 50% of the balance payment will be invoiced. This is to cover monies lost, 4 weeks of your wedding date, full payment will be retained.

For celebration cakes if you cancel within 4 weeks of your event 50% of the full payment will be invoiced. If you cancel within 7 days of your event full payment will be retained.

Cancellation by Sugar Smash Bakery:

In the event of exceptional circumstances, such as serious illness, we will give as much notice as possible if we are unable to fulfil your order. We will endeavour to find someone else who can produce your order and will refund you any monies already paid to us.

Refunds

Refunds for cakes are expressly at the discretion of Sugar Smash Bakery

Refunds will not be given for customers that have simply changed their mind or if the cake has been damaged out of our care.

If you have any complaints about the quality of the cake when cut, please inform us in writing via sugarsmashbakery@gmail.com, and return the cake in full uneaten within 24 hours of collection/delivery.

For wedding cakes, this returns period is extended to 48 hours from delivery of the cake to your venue.

This enables us to fairly assess your complaint and the quality of the cake.

The cake must have been stored as instructed above in the box supplied. If you are complaining about the quality of the cut cake, you must return at least 75% of the uneaten product.

If the cake has been consumed in full, or is not returned to us for inspection, as detailed in these Terms and Conditions, then no refund can be given.
